The Tournament #2. This carving is taken from a beautifully carved misericord found within the choir stalls of Gloucester Cathedral. This carving although being Victorian in age, it is a copied from the medieval carving found in Worcester Cathedral and in our catalogue as the Tournament #1. Although a copy it still remains a stunning piece of woodcarving of immense detail and design. Although not being an absolute precise copy there are many similarities to the original from the expression on the face of the loosing Knight to the embroidery on the horse's regalia. The original from Worcester being the oldest depiction of English Knights jousting can clearly be been to be just as valued and appreciated as true heritage back in the Victorian era to be copied in such a way. This is a true masterpiece of English heritage and craftsmanship. This replica is taken directly from the original and replicates all the fine detail and work done by the craftsmen that carved this great piece. Designed to display upon a wall this makes a magnificent focal point. Comes with a hanging fixture and product label. Size (H) 23cm x (W) 38cm. |
