Ely Knight. Taken from the Medieval (1350) carvings that are found upon the highly decorated Misericords within the choir stalls at Ely Cathedral. This carving is known and called by the Cathedral The Ely Knight, what is depicted is en early Medieval Knight seemingly posing to the onlookers. He his seen here wearing a full-face helmet with none of his face showing, in one harm he holds his shield proudly on display. He is resting and propped up against a huge axe that secures straight with the other harm, one can also see that his sword is at his side but kept in the scabbard. It could be presumed that this is a famous knight of Ely that the city owes a great deal to his attributes and service. This replica is taken directly from the original and replicates all the fine detail and work done by the craftsmen that carved this great piece centuries ago.
