Green Man #4 (St.Chad's). This carving is found within the choir stalls of the beautiful church of St. Chad's. this carving shows the pagan image of the Green Man, in this depiction he has the classic attributes of green foliage but unlike most this does not originate from the mouth. This one shows foliage in the form of a a hood around the head and then forms two ornate swirls underneath his head to form the distinctive and unique form. The Green Man is the pagan symbol of the regeneration of life from birth to death and to the next generation. This is one of the most interesting and beautiful depictions that we have taken from the Cathedrals and Churches of England.
